Today at their pre-E3 press briefing, Microsoft unveiled a totally redesigned dashboard for the Xbox 360, which replaces gamerpics with "avatars" that are basically Miis with clothing. I was actually surprised at how much they look like Miis...I even saw some of the same hairstyles and eyes.
Now, speaking for myself, half the fun of making Miis is their small pallette of features, and the skill it takes to make something amazing from something so limited. I'm guessing that the 360 avatars will have a lot more to choose from, and therefore won't be as impressive to create. However, I'm reserving judgment on this until I get to play around with them, and who knows? They could be a lot of fun.
So...will MiiPlaza perhaps add a section for 360 avatars? Do you guys think it should?
I don't know yet. I would like to see more of it in action, the editor that is. With Miis, you can make some parts very un-human, which helps make some rather nonhuman characters. So far, I only see human-likeness out of it, that's why I said I'd want more of the action. And it also looks like you can only have one per name, unlike the Mii-plaza where you can make up to one hundred.
And this site seems to be strictly Nintendo. Look at the fourms, as the Xbox has it's own section will all other systems, older nintendo systems, and vc games.
I just can't believe this is the best they can do.
Nintendo did not invent the avatar, they put it on the map, making it fun. Now you have Microsoft trying to make money of off the same idea.
It's basically a carbon copy of something we have seen before, like all of the mii copying on the CMO.
I think it is pathetic Microsoft is saying this is new and original for them, cause it obviously isn't at all.
Yeah, I'm trashing the idea, but I'm not against bringing them here.
It looks as if it is an enhanced and improved version of the mii, but it certainly is not a new concept as Microsoft is trying to advertise/promote it as.
Although, like Andy thinks, it doesn't look as fun as mii-making due to the added options.
Haha, I wouldn't say so. I don't think any company can top Microsoft, in software or gaming. Sure, Apple has good software, and Nintendo has good games, but Microsoft will be on top for a long, long time.
Anyway, I also wouldn't say that Nintendo put avatar creation on the map. For years, there have been sports game with "create a character" modes, some more detailed, and some less. Miis may be the best, but they're certainly not the original.

What do you mean? Nintendo is already on top. They've outsold both the 360 and the PS3 everywhere in the world except in the US, and here in the US they're only 100,000 behind and gaining fast.
I mean, it's very obvious that Microsoft's new dashboard and avatars are an attempt to steal some of Nintendo's thunder. That being said, I do like the looks of the new avatars and am looking forward to tinkering with them.

This looks like a fusion between Nintendo's Miis and Sony's PS3 Home.
Throw those two in a test tube and what do you get? Miis that look like people. Microsoft new lame "idea".... Ew...
For once, I agree with Derreck. This is Microsoft attempt to catch on what the rest is doing.
Plus, Andy is right. I could make Jack Black on Tony Hawk Pro Skater and nobody every threw a fuss.
'Cause it's not really as creative and complex as making Miis. This is just not going to catch on.
This is a Nintendo only site so it would kinda ruin the flow.
I think it's a Nintendo site mostly because it's a Mii site, and that goes with the territory. But if the "Mii60s" end up being fun like Miis are, I don't see why they couldn't be included. It'd be a good way to keep the site growing.
Andy, that still doesn't put Nintendo "on top". They may have won the generation (or so it would seem), and they may have the most fun console around; but "on top" refers to who has the control, and Microsoft could have control of practically the entire industry if they wished to. However, I agree with you on the fact that it could hekp the site flourish, as I stated earlier. And while they may be similar to miis, they can't be exactly the same, and will provide a fresh outlet for some of us mii creatoers here.
And Masta, please don't call this a Nintendo only site, that really ticks me off. If that's what it became, I would be gone from this site faster than...... (insert amusing simile here)
It can just be another tab to go in the list - miis, images, Blast Works, XBox avatars...
Judging by the lukewarm response from the MicroSoft fanboys though, I can't see it catching on with their 'hardcore L33T traditionalist gamers' niche. I know we have a few 360 owners here (myself included) but generally all of their more family-friendly casual impetuses have been complete flops...
On a side note this could solve the name-change dilemma once and for all. Mii60plaza.net here we come! :)

I guess that depends on your definition of "control of the industry". With the competition rushing to imitate them, I'd say Nintendo is the one in control at the moment, as they've clearly tapped into a direction for the gaming industry that the other guys are anxious to play catch-up on.
Anyway, I don't want to go off into a tangent here. I think we should wait and see how the Mii360s shape up. Judging from just the first few visuals I've seen, I think there's potential for them to offer creative possibilities the way Miis do...but of course, it all comes down to what the editor winds up being like. We've only seen some rather plain-looking Mii60s so far...but then again, that's all we saw Nintendo do with Miis in the beginning, before the general public had access and found ways to be creative that Nintendo probably never considered.

I can't begin to afford a 360. But if the mii60s can be made to look like something other than "hey, that looks kinda like me!", then sure. Go for it. (Btw... whoever came up with the term 'mii60' should post it on the Urban Dictionary and the like.)
Oh, though I really hope console flame wars don't start, with people downvoting and ripping on each others work. That would be bad.

Just sayin'.
I definitely think they should! It would freshen up this site for sure, and might push me to buy an XBox.
And could you post a link for the pictures? I would like to see them.

They're the same thing that was leaked a few weeks ago.
First they want controllers that act in the same ways as the Wii remote, and now this?
IMO, very pathetic.
Just goes to show you who is on top.
Why?
1) You can't say these aren't nearly identical to miis.
2) More members, mostly the Xbox Community, but this site is so out there now, it wouldn't even matter.
Ah, good ol' Derreck. Why so negative? You act like Nintendo invented the avatar. And that whole 360mote was just a rumor, Microsoft denied it.
And they are not hurting in anyway, if anything at this point, Sony is in hot water after Microsoft's Press at E3 today.
As for Wii, it's Wii. For best results mix with XBox 360 or PlayStation 3.

Copying and taking credit for the idea.
Nobody is original anymore these days. It's very hard to find creativity.

I don't think we should add some cheap knock off's of mii's to the site.
We're sure to learn more about this as time goes on, and I'll be very curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

Yeah, why not! I say 'go for it'.
It can just be another tab to go in the list - miis, images, Blast Works, XBox avatars...

^ Haha! But then mii would still be included, wouldn't it? how about MeSixty.com? ;)
Of course, that would also serve as a way to attract sixty-year-old men and women to the site! You can never have enough diversity here! :D
I said Nintendo site, since we have Mii's, Wii games, DS games, and Blast Works.
Let me catch my breath. Okay
Blast Works isn't Nintendo.
Just because a game comes out on the system, doesn't mean it is made by them.
Surely, this will be another heated debate to add to the pile.

This could bring the infamous console wars here, and things can get ugly.
