Finished version. :)I hit 100% before I could add everything I wanted to; but there's still plenty of goodness within.

Powerups

Red: Super SpreadYellow: Seeker (my favorite)Green: Rapid Laser

Fire and explosions hurt, so avoid them!

Tested on 1P Rookie. I recommend using VertiGal(2P) and Cherub - they were made specifically for this level.

(Craplets...almost forgot)

Don't forget to get as close as possible to the powerup containers before breaking them to get the best possible weapon orientation. I tend to 'charge' them with a last moment shot at point blank.

Everything is so detailed! Good job!

Seriously - this is awesome. Every BW player needs this level in their library.

Okay, this is impressive!  I have yet to finish it, even on Rookie; I keep dying 'cos I'm just staring at the awesomeness of it all.  So much detail, and even the backgrounds are interactive... multi-part enemies... and on top of all the visual amazingness, the level is a balanced and fair challenge.  Duuuuude... bravo.

Levels like this remind me just how much I suck at the editors.  Great work.

This level is just insane. It looks like a video game you stick a quarter in at an arcade.  Amazing job and can't wait to see more from you if you are willing to put in another immense amount of work. YOU MUST PLAY THIS LEVEL

By far the best level I've played on this site, although I still think it could use a few tweaks--the challenge borders on cheap and the pacing and spacing of the enemies could be better (and I wouldn't mind a few more power-up drops to help me out :-)  ).  But seriously, most impressive.  It kinda reminds me of the old shooter, Star Soldier, for the NES.  Your inspiration, perhaps?

Brilliant. Loved every minute of this level, hope you decide to make more.

@ Danderson, I was actually thinking the same thing, this definitely feels influenced by the Star Soldier series though I was thinking more towards the TG16 days than the NES.

amazing play it can be better but it is one of the best levels out there yet...  can't wait to see wut u make next and u better make something else:)

Yeah, Star Soldier, Truxton, Raiden, MUSHA Aleste... all highly inspirational. :)

I wanted to put more powerups too; but it's hard to find the right places for them. The more I tested it, I realized how easy it was for them to 'stack' which reduced the challenge to nil. It's not ideal; but it can still be fun to try and hold on to one as long as possible.

Definitely aware of the spacing issues, too... I forgot to put a gap between the two multi-segmented battleships (DOH!) I think I did OK as far as fairness overall (on Rookie at least); but that's one cheap death you can definitely pin on me.

Anyways, I'm really pleased with everyone's responses and feedback. Thanks a lot! I even did a little pic of VertiGal to celebrate (both that and finishing my first level.) It's in my images.

how did u get it gold plated

(To Derek)

For bosses, you simply put a Scroll Speed trigger down (the ones they give you are at 80% or 20%) next to the End Level trigger, select it and drop the scrollbar down to 0% from the 'Settings' tab.

Positioning a big boss can be tricky, though. :)

Not sure what you mean about the gold plating thing, though. Everything in there is pretty much just flat 2D color (no 'effects' to it really.)

Yep... I'm still finishing the hori level I started before this - the ship, (most) enemies, boss and intro are all done; but the positioning of stuff is kinda broken and I want lots more background tiles for it. I also started on another (less serious) level this week...and as long as these two have taken to build, I think I'll just do a preview/demo for it first!

I dunno, just do what you want, - you've got the 2d skillz in the editor. :) I usually just think of stuff I like about certain games and see if I can pull them off in BW. Favorite shooters, 8-bit platformers is a good place to start.

This level is pure awsomeness, (if that is a word). You should diffinetly do more of these levels. I also found out it's almost mandatory to use the ship designed for the level, because of the spread. So, nice job. I also really liked how you had the explosion graphics under the enemies when they were destroyed.
